Coach Vargas was born in Los Angeles but moved back to Roseville when he was very young. He started playing Little League in Roseville when he was 9 years old. Coach Vargas played all levels of Little League and was on 2 championship reams along with winning a few Tournament of Champions championships as well. He played on his high school team as a 1st baseman and pitcher, catching occasionally as well. He played for Sierra College for a year.
Coach Vargas's coaching career started when his younger brother started Little League. He won numerous championships and coached several All-Star teams, including an 18u team that went all the way to the Regionals Finals. His high school coaching started at Roseville High School where he spent 3 years before moving to Granite Bay High School for 18 years. He currently coaches for Ponderosa High School. Coach Vargas's high school coaching career includes 5 SFL League championships and over 250 wins. He was a pitching coach for American River College for 3 years, but realized he preferred developing and teaching, so he went back to working with high school players. During that time he spent 4 years with a college and above summer travel team where he was selected as a coach for the NorCal All-Star game that was nationally televised. He has participated as a coach in numerous camps with former MLB players. Coach Vargas has had 13 players drafted by the MLB, 2 of which have played in the Majors.
Coach Vargas joined Hard 90 in 2020. He is currently coaching two of our Travel Ball teams and runs Lil 90's for 4-6 year olds. He also offers private pitching, hitting and catching lessons.
