Being An Elite Hitter

Hitting is one of the hardest things to do in all of sports. There is a direct correlation between the amount of time you put into hitting and the results you achieve.

We received a call from the mom of one of our high school players two weeks ago. She was extremely concerned that her son had struck out 3 times in his last three fall ball at bats.

After a discussion with our player, we learned that in the preceding two weeks there were only two hitting practices at his high school and those hitting practices were primarily focused on situational hitting. Further, due to his busy schedule, he was unable to make daily hitting practices at Hard 90. So in the two weeks leading up to his games, he had taken a total of 10 swings.

We explained to our player that 10 swings in two weeks were no where near enough to have success against varsity level pitching. This past week, he made 5 hitting practices at Hard 90 and hit a home run in his first at bat.

In the 5 practices, we were able to re-instill an approach at the plate, correct a flaw in his movement patterns through our posture drills and provide this player quality reps to have confidence at the plate.

Even after the success he had this weekend, he was able to self diagnose through video another improvement improvement needed in his movement patterns to compete against the elite. He is back in The Clubhouse this week looking to make the next improvement.
